Nick Lachey's sex video is said to be so explicit it could damage his career.

The former Newlyweds star was taped romping with girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo in a hot-tub while holidaying in Mexico.

OK! magazine paid $US400,000 to the Mexican paparazzo responsible for the X-rated video and pictures to prevent them ever being published, in exchange for an exclusive interview with Nick and Vanessa.

But a magazine insider told the New York Daily News newspaper: "There's much worse stuff than what got out there on the internet.
