But the carefully-planned media blitz could not disguise the fact that their attempt to impose Brand Beckham on the US has rather back-fired.

Mrs Beckham, 33, had hoped the prime-time reality special would overturn her reputation among some in the US as a pouting prima donna and prove she was "just a normal girl from London."

But the former Spice Girl's much-hyped show received a critical mauling after it aired on NBC on Monday, a review in The New York Post dubbing it "an orgy of self-indulgence".
